The Forbidden Kingdom Movie Review

April 18, 2008 – 01:47 pm

Last night I went to go see the early release sneak preview of The Forbidden Kingdom movie starring Jet Li and Jackie Chan. I must say it’s one of the worst movies I’ve ever watched. The storyline was obviously modified from the original story of the Monkey King and they butchered it to hell. The fighting and all the chi magic made the movie bad and the acting was extremely awful and corny. I expected this to some extent coming into the movie but heck, there was nothing else out, I was bored, and it was a movie starring both Jackie Chan and Jet Li so why not.

I expected it to be a lot better, the fighting a little more realistic (although you can obviously tell even from the trailer there would be lots of special effects added), but unfortunately not. To say the least, I wouldn’t recommend this movie to anyone. I’d like to take a short minute here and claim that this is by far a lot worst than Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and the other hordes of subtitled / dubbed Asian movies (even though this was more American made; I assume). I am also not a big fan of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (I hate the movie horribly) or most of the Americanized Asian flicks. Most will probably disagree with me but it’s probably because I watched real Asian movies and TV series growing up that I know for a fact these movies represent that shitty side of the Asian film industry while most Americans see this as something unique and new.

In either case, I won’t get into the storyline and ruin the movie for you if you have plans on seeing it anyway, but let’s say that most, if not all of the attendees, left in disappointment. Rating 1/5

  4. **GASP** The movie was THAT bad?!! I was really looking forward to watching this movie this weekend, even though the previews looked kinda lame. I wanted to watch it just because it has Jet Li and Jackie Chan and I love their martial arts/kung fu movies (more so Jet Li, than Jackie Chan though).
Darn. I’m still going to go watch it, but I guess I shouldn’t expect so much.
