iPhone News
April 22, 2008 – 01:20 pmAs some of you may know, I currently have a 8GB Apple iPhone. No I don’t have AT&T service (I’ve had them and for one reason or another I really dislike AT&T). In any event, the most current iPhone is the 16GB iPhone. It is still the same first generation phone. Rumor has it that second generation is coming out within four months and it’ll boost 32GB, possibly have GPS, and supports 3G. If this is the case, you’ll know where I’ll be at during launch day. Of course these are rumors and are not guaranteed.
However, in recent news, iPhone now supports VoIP thanks to a new application. It can run it over 3G, EDGE, or Wifi. For those who don’t know, VoIP stands for Voice over IP. Unlike a landline phone or a wireless cell phone, rather than talking over a phone line or a wireless spectrum, you talk over a internet connection. Current services that utilize this technology includes Vonage and Skype. Some people believe that talking over an internet connection isn’t clear. That is a myth. It can be crystal clear just like talking on a house phone or cell phone. The only limitations are obviously your internet connection and hardware. This said, you can actually use VoIP, to talk on your iPhone. Why is this useful? You can call anywhere in the world using the internet as your phone line, therefore, it’s 100% FREE with the exception of your monthly internet service subscription. Meaning for a lot of iPhone users, you don’t even need an active cell phone service, just a working iPhone.
