In The Life Of Steven Truong

March 24, 2008 – 06:00 am

If you wonder what it’s like to be in my shoes, I’ll give you a brief summary to get straight to the point. I quit working my last 9-5 job sometime last year and never looked back. That would be my last job ever. I could have quit the 9-5 scene completely but at the time, I was still trying to major in Pharmacy so I was working at a local hospital pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician. Sadly my business income far surpassed my job income yet I was still slaving away at work back then (actually, I slacked off a lot).

The reason I slacked off and didn’t really care anymore was because somewhere along this path, I finally realize my heart was just not in it. My goal was to become a Pharmacist (started back in high school) but somewhere along the way, that goal died. It took me nearly a decade to let go of it after going to college and dealing with all the volunteer work and pharmacy jobs to actually move on. I don’t think it was because I didn’t realize I wasn’t happy doing it, I think it was more because I felt like I wasted so much time working on it starting back in high school that I didn’t want those effort to go to waste. That unfortunately is the wrong way to think and eventually I didn’t care anymore.

Now, focusing on my businesses and investments full time, I am much happier. Not only do I get to pursue what I love doing and make a ton of money doing it, but I get to travel a lot too (I always traveled a lot growing up because my mom LOVES traveling so we would travel several times a year each year). I still love traveling and seeing new places all the time. With this lifestyle, I can do that and enjoy being on vacation constantly. Las Vegas last month was the first of many trips to come (as part of my business and vacation travels begin). Currently my travel plans for this year (so far) includes going to a conference in San Francisco, CA next month, moving to Seattle in May and attending a conference there in June, attend another convention in Boston in August, then off to New York in October. I am sure there are several other places I will look into traveling to within this year and of course outside the US as well, but for now, that is what I am looking at.

  2. Yes, traveling is awesome! (Even more better when it is a work-paid trip.) I will be going to Seattle in May too. I’m super stoked about it!

  3. That is awesome that you are not doing the 9-5 anymore and you get to travel. I miss traveling. I am having to go back to work away from the home because my husband simply won’t take no for an answer. It’s frustrating, but manageable. the job is only from 7-3, so it will still allow me to do what I love doing, which is writing. :)
