Amazon Kindle

June 28, 2008 – 10:48 pm

This has been out for awhile now but I’ve never felt the need to blog about it until now. If you don’t know what the Amazon Kindle is, you can watch the video below to better understand what it is and how it can help you. I am writing about it simply because of yesterday’s blog post on Elite Mastermind Forum. I feel that having an Amazon Kindle will greatly help you advance your studies and reading. When the Kindle original came out, it was priced around $400. Now, the price has dropped down to about $360 and you can often find cheaper prices on eBay or craigslists if you take your time and check accordingly.

I will probably consider investing in one of these soon. Majority of books and best sellers go for just under $10, so in the long run it’ll actually save you money. The only downside to this is you can’t really resell your books and it doesn’t have the same feel flipping through pages if you are the type that likes to feel your books as you are flipping from chapter to chapter for reference or is a book collector. Outside of these conditions, I feel that there are more benefits to having a Kindle than to not have one. Soon, textbooks will be available on the Kindle and for students who are looking for a cost effective way to carry all your books around and study, this is a great alternative.

The only question I have is whether or not the Kindle displays images if a book normally have images. I should presume so. Also, since the books are electronic, you can probably download a lot of books for free in addition to buying them. The best part is, the kindle is designed to display text as if you were reading off an actual page rather than through a backlight as if you were reading off a computer monitor. I did get to see one in real life and it isn’t that bad. Check the video below for more details.

  4. I regret having invested in a Kindle. The reading pleasure is not quite the same as when you read a regular book. It may be convenient for people on the move, but nothing like a good paper book even a paper back one.

  5. Thanks for that feedback Nicole. I’ll have to tinker with it a bit when I get mine to see how I like it. I can’t say for sure since I haven’t actually been actively using one. Although I do agree having a book is convenient in more than one way.

Have you joined the forum and what books have you read? Sounds like you’re a big reader =]

  6. I visited the forum and am quite impressed with what they want to do. I am however a bit disappointed that they are not fully operational. Moreover, I am a bit wary of forums and social networks now as I hardly get time to attend to all that I already do.

  7. Hi Nicole,

We just have the forum up as a means to communicate and build a reading list, otherwise it’d be hard to organize something for so many people online.
