ATM Mistakes Doubles Withdraw Payouts

March 27, 2008 – 06:00 am

In recent news about a week ago, apparently an ATM in London malfunctioned and was issuing double the amount of money requested. If you withdrew £300, it would give you £600 back and the receipt would only show you’ve withdrawn the intended £300. The £300 is the maximum daily limit you can withdraw from the ATM so it’s not like many people can excessively take advantage of this. However they started calling everyone and their mama and a huge line formed ending in the ATM running out of money. For people in the US unfamiliar with how what the £ stands for, it’s the Great Britain Pound and the currency in which London uses. £600 is equal to $1,190.22, roughly around the time this post was timestamped (a few days ago).
