Inspiration and Motivation

March 25, 2008 – 06:00 am

I wanted to bring up inspiration and talk about how far motivation can really take a person for a little bit here. Please read through this post till the end so you can understand what I mean. The reason this is coming up is because I get this all the time, constantly. People will making a billion and one excuses on why they can’t do this, why they can’t do that, yet each and every one of them claims they want this and they want that. All they ever do is “want want want” but none of them actually do anything about it. The worst part about all this is that they sometimes think their reason is legitimate and justified when it’s really not. If you haven’t read over my Road to Success post, I highly recommend reading through it once even if everything on there sounds like they’re something you’ve read before or already know.

As I’ve mentioned before in that post, 99.9% of all excuses are just that, they’re excuses. Most people blame it on everything else other than themselves if they fail to achieve something or don’t get anywhere with what they want. Yet again, they all say they want this and that. They’ll blame they don’t have enough money, they don’t know what to do, they have no time, they’re sick, something came up, they have SARs, whatever… Even say they’re not really interested in that (which probably is more truthful in some ways than all the other excuses) but the sad awful truth is they don’t deserve any of these things they want (whether its a goal or a dream) and primarily it’s not because they can’t achieve them, it’s because they LAZY. Only people who work towards what they want should deserve to get what they want. And like I said, some of them will think it’s justified but reality speaks that maybe less than 0.1% of cases actually fall under this category (meaning truly legit or have an actual reason).

Take for example below, Dustin Carter. He is a high school student just like any other student… EXCEPT he has no limbs (no arms or legs; or for the most part anyway). Yet that doesn’t stop him from trying as hard as he can to live a normal life, holding his head up high, and compete in wrestling like any normal person. He works out and more importantly, he works hard. Some people born lucky. Some are born prodigies (smart and talented). For the majority, we can make up the different by working hard. That is something almost anyone can do. Yet most of the time we don’t. Like I said before, if I single mom with 5 kids can work 2 full time jobs and go to school while finding time to care for her kids, you surely have no excuse. These stories are not always just extremes, they are reality and there are several of them out there. All it takes, is the will power to make it happen and the ability to follow through with your actions. You don’t need to see fat paychecks from other people to get motivated, you don’t need to see other’s success either. You need to find what truly motivates you and impacts in your life, and perhaps for once, be the one to inspire others rather than let others inspire you.

On another note, I’d like to wish my brother Happy Birthday today!

  2. WOAH! That is inspiring. There is NO substitute for sweat equity. You mention laziness, but I think it is often more than that; it’s a sense of learned futility.

If you take rat and tie its limbs and put it in water, at first it will try to swim, but eventually stop struggling because it is futile. But untie it, and it will still not struggle — even if it means drowning!

We humans are capable of rising above our doubts and fears, but so often we don’t, especially where finances are concerned.

  3. Tonight I went to an art exhibit opening that my cousin was featured in. It reminded me of the school days when I was much more passionate and focused. I think I need to get back in that mode soon.
